Training camp is only a few days old for the Washington Commanders as the team is getting a look at Sam Howell as their starting quarterback.
The second-year quarterback has made just one start so far in his career, beating Dallas in Week 18 of the 2022 season. Howell earned the right to be named the starter going into the offseason even with the team bringing in Jake Fromm and Jacoby Brissett to compete.
While it’s only been a few days since camp has opened, Howell is feeling confident and like he’s in “command” of the offense. Here is what he told the Commanders’ official site during camp:
“I think at this point I have total command of the offense,” Howell said. “I studied a lot this summer and tried to get really comfortable with the system obviously because it’s new, and just tying my feet into the concepts that we’re running.”
Howell will still have to prove he’s the guy to be the starter and go out and win the battle. But early on, that doesn’t seem to be a problem for him as he’s off to a good start.
