Houston Rockets rookie Daishen Nix on Tuesday was named the NBA G League Player of the Week with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the league announced.

Nix, who is signed to a two-way contract after going undrafted, averaged 27.5 points, seven rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game as the Vipers went 3-1 on the week. He shot 56.9% from the field, including 50% from 3-point range.

He has spent much of the season in a developmental role with the Vipers after only appearing in eight games with the Rockets. On the season, he is averaging 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.4 steals in 19 games with the Vipers.

Nix was recently commended by Rockets head coach Stephen Silas for the way he has developed and gotten better throughout the season. He has transformed his body and the results are showing this season in the G League.

With the Rockets in a rebuilding effort, Nix could carve out a larger role with additional improvement. The team is certainly happy with the early showing by Nix and it could eventually lead to more reps in the NBA.
