Aggie football fans have been on high alert since the Mississippi State game last week, awaiting news of the extent of the injury sustained by starting quarterback Max Johnson and how long he would be out.
Johnson took over as the starter for Texas A&M in week 3 following the teams’ upset loss at the hands of Appalachian State, in which Haynes King, who began the year as the starter, never appeared comfortable.
In the Aggies second loss of the year, Johnson hit his throwing hand on the helmet of a Bulldogs defender and left the game due to injury, he threw some on the sideline in attempt to come back, but was in obvious pain.
On Thursday, reports surfaced highlighting the reason for the pain and the visible frustration on Johnson’s face.
According to Ian Fitzsimmons of ESPN Radio in Dallas, Johnson suffered a broken bone in his hand, and will miss multiple weeks, with the possibility that we have seen the last of Johnson for the 2022 season.

On a personal note, this is rough news for Johnson who transferred to A&M for the 2022 season with hopes of quarterbacking this team, and we hope he recovers well.
On a football note, this means that Haynes King will almost certainly get another shot as the starter, however this atmosphere will be much less kind than the one in Kyle Field the last time he started a game.
This could also mean we are one step closer to seeing freshman Connor Weigman get his opportunity.
