Report: Royal Ivey a candidate to join Amar’e Stoudemire on Steve Nash’s staff

One of Kevin Durant’s good friends and former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate is a candidate to join the Brooklyn Nets’ coaching staff.

A wide range of names have been linked to Steve Nash’s assistant coach search.

There have been experienced assistant coaches, like Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Brian Keefe and Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy. Former players who have no coaching experience have also been connected to Brooklyn, like Nash’s former Dallas Mavericks teammate Dirk Nowitzki and his former Phoenix Suns teammate Amar’e Stoudemire — the latter of which has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Nets to join as an assistant coach, with a focus on player development.

Like Kyrie Irving has a history with Handy, Kevin Durant has a history with Keefe. Brooklyn’s superstar forward also has a relationship with New York Knicks assistant coach Royal Ivey, who has now emerged as a candidate to join Nash’s staff, according to Ian Begley of SNY.

In addition to being alumni of Texas, Durant and Ivey played together in Oklahoma City from 2010-11 to 2011-12 and again in 2013-12.

To this point, Jacque Vaughn is the only member of Nash’s staff that the Nets have confirmed.
