As we have mentioned several times here on the Raiders Wire, the Raiders are expected to upgrade their quarterback room this offseason. No, that doesn’t mean replacing Derek Carr. But instead, upgrading his backup.
One potential backup option could be Marcus Mariota, who was benched in favor of Ryan Tannehill in 2019. According to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo, the Raiders do have an interest in signing Mariota this offseason as a backup to Carr.
Mike Mayock's No. 1 ranked QB in 2015. Of course, Mariota will have other options and the Raiders will explore other QBs so no guarantee it comes together. But he's in the mix for sure. https://t.co/lSlxMLcT2z

As Garafolo mentioned, general manager Mike Mayock was high on Mariota during the 2015 NFL Draft. Mariota was his top-ranked quarterback in the class, ahead of Jameis Winston.
While Mariota’s fit in a West Coast offense may seem a bit clunky, adding an athletic quarterback would be interesting to watch. The price tag will ultimately decide if the Raiders are interested in Mariota, but expect the team to show interest early on in free agency.
