James Harden is set on getting out of Houston and joining Kevin Durant in Brooklyn.
It’s to the point where the Rockets’ superstar guard turned down a gigantic extension offer from Houston.
Harden had the chance to become the first $50M a year player in NBA history, with the Rockets the perennial MVP candidate turning down a two-year, $103 million extension — in addition to the three years he has left on his current deal with the Rockets, in which he’s still set to make another $133 million — according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Nets and Rockets have discussed the situation, but they “have engaged in no meaningful dialogue,” per Woj.
Additionally, Woj is reporting Harden’s conversations with Durant and Kyrie Irving out West have “ramped up in recent weeks.”
“So far, there’s no indication that the Rockets believe the Nets could deliver a package that fits that profile,” Woj wrote. “Harden believes his window to chase championships in Houston has ended, and constructing a super team with the Nets represents his best pathway to a title, sources said.”
