Report: Giants met with South Carolina CB Cam Smith

The New York Giants met with South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith over dinner last week.

The New York Giants will head into the 2023 NFL draft in need of help at a number of positions. With 10 picks in tow, they’ll be able to address most of those issues.

But at the back end of Round 1, what should be their priority? Should they invest that pick into a center, a wide receiver, or perhaps a cornerback?

General manager Joe Schoen is undoubtedly weighing all of those options and as part of his due diligence, had a contingent of Giants meet with cornerback Cam Smith last week ahead of South Carolina’s Pro Day.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports:

A Giants contingent took projected first-round South Carolina corner Cam Smith out to dinner last week the night before the Gamecocks’ pro day, several sources told the Daily News.

The 6-1, 180-pound Smith is a popular prospect with impressive length who “can play man coverage at outside corner and nickel” in the NFL, one coach said.

Many scouts and coaches believe Smith could land in the late first round, which is where the Giants hold the No. 25 overall pick.

Smith is a long outside cornerback who would pair well with Adoree’ Jackson and prevent the Giants from moving another player out of position. He would have to clean up his holding issues at the NFL level but that’s one of the very few knocks against him.
