Report: Don Brown done at Michigan

After losing badly to Ohio State twice in a row and with the defense regressing, Michigan football has chosen to move on from Don Brown.

After the last two matchups against rival Ohio State and the way the 2020 defense regressed, it seemed only a matter of time before his Michigan tenure would reach an end.

Though Brown came to Ann Arbor after fielding the No. 1 defense in the country at Boston College and his Wolverines defenses replicated that success early on, the past few seasons, it didn’t have the same panache. It was No. 1 in 2016, No. 3 in 2017, No. 2 in 2018, and No. 11 in 2019 before falling off a cliff in 2020, as it was 84th nationally, with incapabilities of defending the pass and stopping the run, depending on the game.

According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, Michigan has fired Brown and will look to bring in a new defensive coordinator.

Given that the offensive coaches were tweeting during early signing day last week on Wednesday but the defensive coaches were not, the writing appeared to be on the wall.

Now the maize and blue will look to usher in a new era, though Jim Harbaugh’s contract extension has yet to have been settled — though it’s anticipated that it will be in a short span.
