Razorbacks hope to bolster tight end room as Freshman All-American visits via portal

Arkansas needs more depth in the room. Var’Keyes Gumms would provide more than just depth.

The Arkansas basketball team is angling for a North Texas transfer in wing Tylor Perry. The football team is angling for a North Texas transfer, too, turns out.

Var’Keyes Gumms is set to visit Arkansas on the weekend on an official trip after playing just one season with the Mean Green. It was quite the season, though.

Gumms caught 34 passes for 458 yards with five touchdowns last year. He was named a Freshman All-American for his efforts despite starting only six games.

Arkansas could use a touch of depth. Freshman Luke Hasz is currently the first-team tight end even though he only arrived during this semester. Redshirt freshman Ty Washington is expected to get plenty of snaps in the fall, but he was nursing an injury. Nathan Bax is the third-teamer and has seen only limited duty during his three seasons with the Hogs.

Gumms has received offers from Arkansas, BYU, Oregon, Colorado, Utah and West Virginia among others.
