Potential replacements, takeaways from Jon Feliciano injury

Cody Ford’s position

In terms of in-house replacements, Cody Ford deserves his own section here. Last season Ford ended his rookie year as Buffalo’s starter at right tackle. But prior to that, he was rotating with veteran Ty Nsekhe there. In many cases, there was a learning curve and Nsekhe looked better.

That’s not as much of a knock against Ford as opposed to it being expected. He was a rookie, after all. But following a year of seasoning in the pros, the Bills could see a lot better production from Ford at right tackle in 2020. But there’s this thought: What about moving Ford to right guard?

Prior to the Bills drafting Ford in the second round of the 2019 draft, many draft analysts and pundits pegged Ford as a right guard in the NFL. In college, he did play tackle, but sometimes at the next level, a player can see their skills translate better to a new role. Could that be the case for Ford?

Throughout Ford’s young career, McDermott has committed to playing Ford at right tackle. We’ll see whether or not that continues without Feliciano, but one thing is for sure: This is probably the Bills’ best chance to see what Ford can do at guard.
