The final days and weeks of the Class of 2023 recruiting cycle before the early signing p[period opens are upon us, but the focus on the Class of 2024 is already underway, because recruiting never stops. As Penn State works to put the finishing touches on its Class of 2023 efforts, the Nittany Lions are also working on the Class of 2024 with hopes of continuing to bring in talent that can take Penn State to College Football Playoff contention.
Over the weekend, Penn State made the latest top schools cut for four-star edge rusher Jaylen Harvey of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Harvey announced his list of his top 11 schools as he continues his recruiting process, and Penn State is listed among a number of heavyweights to compete with including Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and future Big Ten member USC. Other schools listed in Harvey’s top 11 include Maryland, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Louisville, and Pitt.
Harvey is a three-star recruit according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings, but he is a four-star player according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Harvey is rated as a four-star recruit by On3, Rivals, and ESPN, and he is a consensus top 10 player in the state of Maryland across the board.
At the moment, Penn State is considered the favorite to secure the commitment from Harvey. There are two 247 crystal ball picks on the board for Penn State and the On3 prediction machine gives the Nittany Lions a 97.6% chance of landing Harvey as a commit. Of course, these predictions can change at any moment, but considering the expert opinions weighing in already, it is clear Penn State is making a strong effort to woo Harvey to Happy Valley.
Harvey made a pair of unofficial visits to Penn State in October, following a prior unofficial visit in April that led to an official offer being extended by Penn State.
