Patrick Peterson didn’t think Kirk Cousins knew it was fourth down

Peterson was very critical of the play that ultimately ended the Vikings’ season

When the Minnesota Vikings saw their season end by a score of 31-24 to the New York Giants, it ended in tragic fashion as quarterback Kirk Cousins threw the pass five yards short of the first down marker.

On the play, Cousins had three deep options but chose tight end T.J. Hockenson, who ran a three-yard out on a choice route. There were many elements at play on that fourth down but throwing it short was not something that the Vikings could afford to do with the season on the line.

On the latest episode of All Things Covered, cornerback Patrick Peterson talked about that play and that he didn’t think Cousins knew what down it was.

” When I saw it the only thing I could think of… (was) ‘He must have didn’t know what down it was’ …On the sideline, it just took me back because I was just shocked that we threw the ball three yards when we needed eight.”

Not a ringing endorsement from Peterson. It’s extra frustrating that Cousins reverted back to throwing short of the sticks when he had been really aggressive all season long.
