Packers assistant Luke Getsy has offer to be offensive coordinator for Bears

Will Packers QBs coach and pass game coordinator Luke Getsy leave Green Bay to call plays for the Bears offense?

The Denver Broncos hired Nathaniel Hackett, and now the prime candidate to replace him as Matt LaFleur’s offensive coordinator has an offer on the table to do the same job – with an added bonus – for the Chicago Bears.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Packers quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Luke Getsy has an offer to be the offensive coordinator and playcaller for the Bears. Chicago just hired former Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to be the new head coach and needs a leader on offense.

The bonus for Getsy with the Bears would be calling plays, something LaFleur can’t offer in Green Bay. The promotion would be a big one for Getsy, especially if he has intentions of one day becoming an NFL head coach.

The Packers are in a tough spot. Offensive line coach and run game coordinator Adam Stenavich, another candidate to be the Packers offensive coordinator, is expected to talk with Hackett about Denver’s open offensive coordinator job.

If Stenavich wants to follow Hackett to the Broncos, and Getsy jumps at the chance to call plays in Chicago, the Packers could lose three top offensive assistants to start the offseason and the top two options to replace Hackett.

Getsy has been the Packers quarterbacks coach since 2019. After four years working under Mike McCarthy in Green Bay, Getsy spent one year calling plays at Mississippi State before returning to the Packers on LaFleur’s first staff. This past year, Getsy was promoted to passing game coordinator.
