Omarion Hampton added to Maxwell Award watch list

North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton was added to the Maxwell Award watch list Wednesday.

It has been a remarkable season for North Carolina’s running back Omarion Hampton, and now he is getting some recognition for it.

It was announced Wednesday afternoon by the selection committee that Hampton was added to the Maxwell Award watch list. The Maxwell Award is presented to who the committee feels is the best all-around college football player, including all positions.

Hampton has been stellar for UNC this season. In eight games, Hampton has rushed for over 923 yards, with ten rushing touchdowns (9th in the nation). He has also been a dual threat, showing his receiving skills with 158 yards through the air and a receiving touchdown.

Despite a high-powered passing offense, Hampton has been able to carve his lane to becoming a household name around the nation. No Tar Heel has ever won the award.

The last running back to win the award was Derrick Henry out of Alabama, the only RB to win the award in the last two decades.
