The Cotton Bowl was a hot mess inside a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck for the Florida Gators.
Oklahoma allowed Florida to stick around early, with the Cotton Bowl being a 17-13 game with six minutes left in the second quarter. The Sooners would go on to outscore the Gators 38-7 the rest of the game to win the 2020 Cotton Bowl 55-20.
Florida played Wednesday night’s game with about 60 scholarship players, all four of its top pass-catchers out of the game and four starters on defense. It showed. Oklahoma had its best offensive game since the season-opener against Missouri State and the Gators’ offense sputtered.
The Sooners scored on their opening drive and then got a pick-six from Tre Norwood on the ensuing Florida offensive drive. The offense would stall for a little, letting Florida get back into it. Oklahoma would push its 17-13 lead from six minutes in the second quarter to 31-13 before the game got to half time.
The Sooners would go on to score 24 points in the second half to Florida’s seven. Rhamondre Stevenson had a huge day on the ground, rushing for 186 yards on 18 carries and had a monster touchdown. Marcus Major also had over 100 yards rushing. The Oklahoma defense forced three Kyle Trask interceptions in the first half.
It was a wire-to-wire performance from the Sooners. Oklahoma finishes the 2020 season 9-2 with a Big 12 Championship and Cotton Bowl championship.
