According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, the word ‘irony’ can be defined as the “incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result.”
As we sit here on October 4th, 2022, the irony that is spewing out of Indianapolis is growing more and more bizarre by the day.
All offseason long, we heard Colts fans, media members, players, coaches, supporters, owners, etc., talk about the Titans as if they were the obviously inferior team between the two.
A big reason for those arguments had been because Ryan Tannehill was largely perceived as the main reason for the Titans’ inability to be seen as a legitimate contender over the last few years.
However, now that things are starting to unravel down in Indianapolis, it appears that the narrative on the Titans quarterback is starting to change.
Colts running back Nyheim Hines recently provided an interesting quote that likely shares how a lot of Indianapolis is feeling at the moment. The versatile playmaker voiced his frustration with the constant revolving door that is the Colts’ starting quarterback job.
“Not an excuse, but every year we have a new quarterback,” Hines said, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic. “So each year we have growing pains while we sit here [and] watch Tennessee, which has had Tannehill, what, my whole career? And each year we’re restarting and we have to turn the page.
“So that sucks a little bit, too, that most teams we play have an established guy, but that doesn’t matter,” Hines continued. “We have figured it out and we will figure it out.”

Hines went out of his way to point out how Tennessee is essentially lucky to have stability at the quarterback position with Tannehill under center.
Again, this contradicts everything that was being said out of Indianapolis prior to the season. The fact that so many Colts fans and/or media members seemingly agree with this stance makes it that much more ironic.

Nonetheless, Tennessee’s recent success over their division rival has been a pleasant development for long-time Titans fans who spent countless years being the unquestioned inferior team.
It seems like everyone in Indianapolis is having a hard time accepting the reality that this is no longer the Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, or even the late, great Johnny Unitas’ Colts anymore.
This was never more clear than the day they finally admitted that they were jealous of not having the quarterback stability that Tennessee currently possesses with Tannehill under center.
