NFL legend thinks Bill Belichick will NOT take the UNC head coaching job

Tom Brady gives his take on Bill Belichick potentially coaching at UNC.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are closing in on their next head football coach, who increasingly looks like it will be Bill Belichick.

Despite never coaching at the college level, Belichick is the greatest football coach of all-time. He won six Super Bowls leading the New England Patriots‘ former dynasty, is a 3-time AP NFL Coach of the Year and was instrumental in developing Tom Brady, the greatest football player to walk this Earth.

Brady later went on to win a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, while Belichick and New England parted ways after the 2024 NFL season.

Despite all Belichick and Brady’s years together – and Brady knowing Belichick better than anyone outside his family – Brady revealed why he doesn’t think Belichick will coach at the college level.

“There’s a lot of things he can do, and obviously he’s tremendous, and even showing his personality,” Brady said of Belichick on Fox NFL Sunday. “But getting out there on the recruiting trail and dealing with all these college kids.”

Brady also poked a little fun at his former head coach while in studio, imagining what Belichick would sound like during a recruiting pitch.

“Listen, you really wanna come here,” Brady said with a scowl on his face. “I mean we don’t really want ya anyway, but I guess you could come. We’ll figure out if you’ll play.”

UNC has yet to hire Belichick as of Monday, Dec. 9, despite him having mutual interest. From watching Belichick all these years on NFL sidelines, I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues waiting to make a decision.

If I’m North Carolina, though, I hire Belichick as soon as possible. It’s not often you get a legendary coach sniffing around like Belichick.
