According to a Thursday report from The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach, the NCAA approved a waiver that will allow schools to host as many official visits as they want for men’s and women’s basketball prospects.
The waiver, which Auerbach said was detailed in a memo acquired by The Athletic, becomes effective immediately.
The new rule was proposed by the oversight committees for both men’s and women’s basketball as the volume of transfers continues to increase.
“The blanket waiver would turn into legislation if two pending proposals are adopted by the Division I Council next month,” Auerbach wrote in a follow-up message on X, the social media formerly known as Twitter.

This was recommended by the MBB & WBB oversight committees due to the transfer environment.

Duke already landed two transfers and six freshmen signees for the upcoming 2024-25 class, but the Blue Devils still have three open scholarship spots. If head coach Jon Scheyer has his eyes on any more future players (Tulane’s Sion James, perhaps), the rule opens up his playbook even wider.
