Recruitment
What an adventure.
Michigan offered Edwards quite early in the process, but so did Ohio State — who saw the elite tailback as a player who could come in and replicate what J.K. Dobbins did in Columbus. The Buckeyes led for some time, and interest in the Wolverines waned when Georgia, Alabama, and Oklahoma got to be in heavy pursuit for the national prospect. When it seemed he was destined to join OSU’s 2021 class, the Buckeyes signed two backs, all but assuring that he wouldn’t end up down south.
However, Georgia and Oklahoma loomed large, and Notre Dame entered the fray as well. While he had visited Georgia, the fact that he couldn’t visit Oklahoma hurt the Sooners. Michigan picked up its pursuit of the elite running back, and it ultimately paid off as Edwards committed to the Wolverines on early signing day.
Despite leading the 247Sports Crystal Ball for months, Edwards was unsure of his future destination until close to signing.
