Preston Johnson had just one blemish on an otherwise sparkling statline in Game 2 of the College World Series Championship Final as his Mississippi State team took down Vanderbilt 13-2: a home run he gave up to Maxwell Romero Jr.
He might not have had the hilarious reaction you’ll see below if his team had not been up so much, but who knows? Maybe he’s just one of those pitchers who respects when a hitter gets the bat on one of his pitches.
As he watched the ball fly out in Omaha, he waved it goodbye with a sad face, and my goodness this is gold:
It’s not often you see a guy wave goodbye to a home run ball he just gave up. All credit to @HailStateBB pitcher Preston Johnson. #CWS pic.twitter.com/wx9GWKlRha
