Miles Sanders may not play preseason opener due to groin injury

Panthers RB Miles Sanders may not be in action for Saturday’s preseason opener against the Jets.

Being that almost everything over at 800 South Mint Street is so new, Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich wants to see his starters get themselves a decent amount of work in exhibition play. But one of the team’s newest starters may not get that chance this weekend.

While speaking with reporters through a Zoom call following the cancelation of this morning’s joint practice, Reich said that running back Miles Sanders might not be on the field for the preseason opener. The fifth-year veteran, according to Reich, recently tweaked his groin.

Sanders was held out of the team portion of last Saturday’s practice and was limited to individual work. Reich, at time, didn’t disclose the exact nature of the 26-year-old’s injury—stating he was “fine” and the decision to keep him down was a “precautionary” one.

The Panthers are set to host the visiting New York Jets on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
