One of the greatest relief pitchers in MLB history, who also happened to be a multi-time Michigan State graduate, passed away on Tuesday night. Mike Marshall died in his Florida home shortly after entering hospice care, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced.

Marshall had three degrees from MSU, a path he chose at the age of 17 after being signed by the Phillies out of high school.  He won the National League Cy Young Award in 1974 using the legendary screwball pitch.

Marshall still owns two MLB records, which are:

  • The most games pitched in for a reliever (106).
  • Most consecutive games pitched in as a reliever (13).
