Michael Penix Jr leads the field in first Heisman poll of 2023

College Sports Wire unveils the first Heisman Poll of the 2023 season.

With the way that the 2023 college football season has started, we might want to call the Heisman Trophy race the Pac-12 quarterback race.

The defending Heisman Trophy winner, Caleb Williams, picked up right where he left off in 2022. As did FBS-leading passer Michael Penix Jr. of Washington. You can also throw in Bo Nix of Oregon and Cameron Ward of Washington State into the mix. Pound-for-pound this might be the greatest collection of passers in any conference.

There are plenty of other players who will throw their names into the hat in this chase for college football immortality. Players such as Dillon Gabriel of Oklahoma, Quinn Ewers of Texas, and Jayden Daniels of LSU.

As will be the case each week until the official ceremony, College Sports Wire put together our rankings for the Heisman Trophy poll.
