Mel Kiper Jr.’s worst bad calls during the NFL Draft

Let’s look at some of the ESPN’s NFL Draft guru’s major misses.

Kiper Jr. was so gung-ho on the All-American receiver from USC, who the Lions drafted 10th overall, that he told former ESPN analyst Merril Hoge:

“I’ll see you at (Williams’) Hall of Fame induction.”

Yowza.

Ask Lions fans how that worked out. Williams did have a nice career resurgence for the Seahawks in 2010 and 2011 under Pete Carroll, his college coach, but he was also one of former Lions general manager Matt Millen’s biggest whiffs — and that’s saying a lot. Selected 10th overall in the 2005 draft, Williams caught just 37 passes for 449 yards and two touchdowns with Detroit, and he was out of football entirely for a time before his reunion with Carroll.
