There were rumors swirling that former UNC basketball point guard [autotag]Coby White[/autotag] could be moved ahead of the 2022 NBA draft after just a few seasons in Chicago. The Bulls didn’t trade White ahead of or on draft night as he’s still on the active roster.
But almost a week later, there are more rumors out there with trade buzz and it’s the Los Angeles Lakers he’s being connected to this time.
Dan Woike of the LA Times wrote in his latest piece that the Lakers are a team to watch in terms of trying to trade for White. Woike sourced rival executives who believe they would target the point guard:
The Lakers could also look to acquire players via trade, with rival executives believing Chicago’s Coby White could be a target. Moving Talen Horton-Tucker, a player whose ball-dominant skills are viewed by rival scouts as being redundant with the Lakers’ stars, could be a way to upgrade to suit the Lakers’ needs.
White was selected as a lottery pick in the 2019 NBA draft by the Bulls, before the franchise ushered in a new regime and completely overhauled the roster. The former UNC guard has averaged 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in his career while shooting 36.5 percent from the three-point line.
The Lakers could use some help on the perimeter and a fresh start elsewhere for White might be ideal. He’s flashed his potential at times as a sold three-point shooter but he’s also struggled to be consistent as well.
One thing is certain, White’s name continues to be a hot one in terms of trade buzz.
