Los Angeles Kings at New York Islanders odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Los Angeles Kings at New York Islanders odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Kings (21-16-6) travel to meet the New York Islanders (15-14-6) Thursday at UBS Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Kings vs. Islanders odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Kings came up short in the second game of their six-game road trip when they fell 3-2 in a shootout against the New York Rangers Monday. The Under has connected in their last three games overall.

The Islanders picked up a 4-3 victory over the skidding Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday as they bounced back from a 3-1 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday. It was a rare Over result, as the Under is 9-3 across their last 12 outings.

Kings at Islanders projected goalies

Jonathan Quick (11-10-5, 2.53 GAA, .914 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Ilya Sorokin (12-7-5, 2.29 GAA, .926 SV%, 4 SO)

Quick was in between the pipes Monday against the Rangers, stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced in the shootout loss. He is winless across his past three starts, allowing 11 goals on 73 shots, and he has a 2-3-1 record, 3.16 GAA and .880 SV% in six January starts.

Sorokin has won each of his past five starts, going 5-0-0 with a 1.58 GAA, .929 SV% and 1 shutout so far in January. His last setback in regulation was Dec. 14 in Detroit.

Kings at Islanders odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 4, Kings 2

Money line

The ISLANDERS (-150) is the safe play, as Sorokin has been tremendous in between the pipes since the ball dropped in Times Square. He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in each of his last nine starts and New York is 5-0 in his last five outings.

Against the spread

The ISLANDERS -1.5 (+175) are worth a small-unit play at this price, as Sorokin has allowed next to nothing, while New York has provided him with plenty of offensive support lately. The offense has backed the sophomore goalie with 18 total goals in his five January starts.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (+115) is the value play here at plus-money. Yes, Sorokin has been an impenetrable wall in January, but the offense is still getting the job done. It may take a late empty-net goal to get the Over across the finish line, but OVER 5.5 (+115) is the play here.
