Longhorns women’s basketball emerging as the favorites to land Aaliyah Chavez

On Monday afternoon, Longhorns women’s basketball received encouraging news on the recruiting front. The Longhorns are reportedly the front-runners to land five-star guard Aaliyah Chavez, according to Talia Goodman of On3 Sports. Getting a commitment from Chavez would be a significant development, as she is the top-ranked prospect in the 2025 class.

The talented guard made an unofficial visit to Texas last October and has scheduled another trip for next month. While plenty of schools have shown interest, Chavez spoke highly of the Longhorns at the Run 4 Roses in Louisville over the summer.

” They were one of my first offers too, so just keeping them in,” Aaliyah told the media.” They’re close to home. They recruit me well. I think I talk to them almost every day, and they always have high energy.”

In the summer, Chavez had reduced her list of schools to six. The schools that made the final cut were Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Texas Tech, South Carolina, and UCLA. However, LSU is reportedly out of the running because Chavez has requested over a million dollars of NIL support.

Over the next few months, Chavez will be a player to watch. Last season, she averaged 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 35 games for Monterey High School. Due to her play, Chavez saw her stock skyrocket, and she received over 27 Division 1 Scholarship Offers.

While Chavez has said she is in no rush to make a commitment, the Longhorns will do everything they can to ensure that her college career starts in Austin.
