Latest mock draft pegs two Texas players in the first round

The latest mock draft from the Draft Network has two Texas Longhorns taken in the first 25 picks of the draft.

Joseph Ossai, Edge, Tennessee Titans

Pick 01.22

The Titans have one of the best defensive coaches in football in head coach Mike Vrabel, but not even Vrabel could scheme up pressure with the lack of edge talent on this football team. The Titans’ defense ranked near the bottom of the league in sacks, and that has to change next season. Texas edge rusher Joseph Ossai projects to be a difference-making pass rusher with the speed, length, and motor to make opposing offensive tackles’ lives difficult. Ossai also has the versatility to plan off the ball, which is something that Vrabel will love as he likes to get creative with his fronts.

The lack of a consistent pass rush from Tennessee was evident this past season. The Titans didn’t have but one player finish with five or more sacks and 10 or more tackles for loss. Ossai did both of those things for the Longhorns in 2020. Adding Ossai gives them a positive step towards fixing the lackluster pass rush they deployed in 2020.
