LaMelo Ball wins SI’s Breakthrough Athlete of the Year

LaMelo adds another accolade to his resume.

It’s time for LaMelo Ball to make room for another trophy in his trophy case.

On Tuesday at the Sports Illustrated Awards, Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball was named Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.

Last season, Ball won the 2021 NBA Rookie of the Year award so winning the Breakthrough Athlete of the Year at the SI Awards makes perfect sense.

So far this season, LaMelo is averaging 20 points, 7.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.9 steals while shooting 39% from 3-point range.

If Ball keeps this kind of production going, once he returns to play after being cleared from health and safety protocols, expect to see more accolades coming his way.
