The Lakers parlayed a dominant second quarter into a comfortable win on the road in Houston on Sunday night, but the game wasn’t without some tension in the first half as both Markieff Morris and DeMarcus Cousins were ejected.
After Morris committed a hard, flagrant foul on Houston’s Jae’Sean Tate, Cousins protected his teammate by shoving Morris. The two players then came together and needed to be separated, and the officials assessed double-technicals and ejected Morris. In the second quarter, Cousins walloped LeBron James in the head on a block attempt, and the big man was ejected for a Flagrant 2 foul.
Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 27 points in a 120-102 win, while James finished with 18 points and Talen Horton-Tucker added 17 off the bench. Christian Wood led the Rockets with 23 points on an unusually quiet night for James Harden, who had 20 on 14 shots.
