No. 22 Tennessee women’s tennis team opened its 2022 spring dual season with a road victory Friday.
The Lady Vols defeated Charlotte, 4-0.
Rebeka Mertena and and Elza Tomase defeated Charlotte’s Ruxi Schech and Kaavya Sawhney, 6-1.
The Lady Vols earned a 6-2 win from Esther Adeshina and Eleonora Molinaro against Rocio Safont and Lucie Petruzelova.
In singles competition, Mertena, ranked No. 14 in the country, defeated Schech, 6-3, 6-1.
Tomase, the nation’s 56th-ranked player, notched a three-set win over Lucia Quitero, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Molinaro defeated Emma Wilkins in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
