Kevin King re-signs with Atlanta Falcons on practice squad

Kevin King’s return to the NFL stays alive in Atlanta.

Former Washington Huskies cornerback Kevin King will have another shot to revive his NFL dreams after signing with the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.

“When it gets easy to make those decisions on who you keep and who you let go, I am out of here,” head coach Raheem Morris said. “I’m leaving and walking away when that decision gets easy because that’s always tough. It’s a people-first mentality. It’s a people-first business. We’re a people-first organization, and I’ll always be that way.”

Atlanta opted to release King on final cutdown day, keeping veterans Antonio Hamilton Sr. and Mike Hughes to round out the cornerback position. However, King’s long relationship with Atlanta’s defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake, his defensive backs coach at Washington, may have benefited him.

The 6-foot-3 King was impressive during the preseason after missing the last two seasons, taking 2022 off to rehabilitate both mentally and physically before missing 2023 due to a torn Achilles tendon. If Morris and Lake can’t find any answers on their roster to their other starting cornerback spot opposite A.J. Terrell, they could turn to King and allow the former second-round pick to make his return to the NFL.
