Kevin Durant reflects on recent COVID-19 health and safety protocols quarantine

Although the result of the Nets’ game on Sunday was disappointing, Kevin Durant still put on a good show against the OKC Thunder.

Unfortunately for Kevin Durant, quarantining isn’t exactly unfamiliar territory at this point. He was one of several Nets players to first test positive for COVID-19 when the league paused the season in March of last year. Fast forward to the first full week of 2021 and Durant was back in isolation — except he wasn’t churning out a positive test this time around.

“I didn’t feel like I was going to get COVID-19 again. I knew that I had it before. I have the antibodies and I didn’t come in contact with too many people, and I felt confident I’d have negative tests,” Durant said on a Zoom call with reporters after Sunday’s loss. “I was able to get some work in at the house — weights, treadmill, stuff like that to keep me in shape. But there’s nothing like game shape. It’s good I’ll be able to get to practice tomorrow with the guys.”

Of course, after having missed all of last season, Durant has no interest in missing any more games. But Brooklyn’s star forward understands things like this are still prone to happen with COVID-19 still being an issue.

“I wouldn’t say it was a struggle. I definitely would’ve loved to be out there with my teammates, but COVID put us under these circumstances and a lot of guys around the league are under protocol,” Durant said. “It’s something we knew coming into the season that may happen. So, I wasn’t too upset about it, but I’m glad I’m back playing though.”
