In a season where Kentucky softball struggled with SEC opponents, it’s fitting that it ends with an opening round SEC Tournament loss to Ole Miss. The Wildcats hoped to rebound after being swept by Tennessee in their final regular season series, but fell 7 – 2 to the Rebels on Tuesday.
Ole Miss jumped out to a 3 – 0 lead but Kentucky scored two in the third inning to make it a one-run game. The runs came on a walk and a wild pitch. Unfortunately, it was all Rebels after that. They scored the final four runs of the game for the five-run victory.
Kentucky was held to three hits in the game, while Stephanie Schoonover gave up three runs in three innings of work on the mound. The offense just never got going.
The Wildcats now wait for the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night. It will be on ESPN2 for fans who want to watch.
