Kendrick Perkins says Kevin Durant has dethroned LeBron James

“Kevin Durant is the best player in the world and it’s about damn time somebody dethroned King James.”

A former teammate of Nets star Kevin Durant and four-time NBA Champion LeBron James, Kendrick Perkins, has spoken. On Bally Sports, the 36-year-old told Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson that not only is Kevin Durant the best player in the world, but he is the best offensive player this game has ever seen. Perkins made sure to make this crystal clear:

“Here’s the thing, Kevin Durant is the best player in the world and it’s about damn time somebody dethroned King James from being the best player in the world. We’re talking about a guy that’s going on what? Year 19? I don’t really know if LeBron James even cares about being the best player in the world anymore going on to age 37 so it’s about time somebody finally stepped up to the plate and dethroned him because he’s been carrying the torch for so long.”

Of course, with James slowly but surely declining from his position as being one of the league’s best players, another rising star is evolving. This is none other than the reigning NBA Finals MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Although the Greek Freak is fresh off of leading the Bucks to a title, Perkins still doesn’t think Antetokounmpo can’t compare with Durant:

“Some people are going to come across as is Giannis (Antetokounmpo) the best player in the league or is it Kevin Durant. I still to this day say that Kevin Durant is the best player in the league because he is the best offensive player that this game has ever seen and he doesn’t get enough credit for what he brings on the defensive side of things.”
