Jonah Williams is quietly one of the more interesting elements to watch at OTAs and Cincinnati Bengals training camp this summer.

Williams was the unquestioned left tackle who went unchallenged this offseason as the Bengals added new pieces to the line. He’s also effectively going into only his second on-field season after his rookie year was derailed by injury.

Asked about the team’s confidence in keeping him at left tackle, Williams told Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer the following: “I take that very seriously. I want to prove the team right and do what it takes to be a great left tackle.”

Part of what makes Williams’ journey this summer so interesting is the return of Frank Pollack as offensive line coach. Lindsay Patterson of the Cincinnati Enquirer caught his early impressions on this front:

It’s understandable for Bengals fans to have big expectations for Williams, the former first-rounder hitting his upward developmental stride right as Pollack returns.

Likewise, then, it’s easy to understand the confidence this coaching staff has placed in him. The challenge? Protecting Joe Burrow after last year’s injury-shortened debut for the No. 1 overall pick.
