Jets open as near touchdown underdogs for Week 1

Jets are clear underdogs for Week 1. Should the spread be lower?

It’s time to get your betting shoes on. With Week 1 finally upon us, the books are open and the lines will be moving all week. But for now, the New York Jets are clear underdogs in their season-opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Our friends over at Tipico Sportsbook have the Jets as 6.5-point underdogs for this week. Obviously a factor in that spread is the uncertainty over the availability of quarterback Zach Wilson for Sunday, which we should know by the middle of the week if he will play or not. If he can’t, it will be former Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco getting the start against the team he led to a win in Super Bowl XLVII.

The Ravens are re-loaded and hoping to stay much more healthy than they did in 2021, where a host of players, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, missed time due to various injuries. Once upon a time, the Ravens had the best record in the AFC at 8-3. They finished 8-9 and in last place in the AFC North. They’ve since geared back up for another run, including selecting safety Kyle Hamilton in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

If Wilson is able to play, it will be interesting to see if the gap closes a bit. But for now, it’s a favorable matchup for John Harbaugh’s club on Sunday. The over/under is currently set at 44.5
