On Tuesday, second overall pick James Wiseman made his NBA debut with the Golden State Warriors and became the youngest player in team history at 19 to start in an opening game since the 1970-71 season.
Unfortunately, the feat and debut performance by Wiseman was just about the only thing that went right for the Warriors after suffering a 125-99 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. Golden State trailed by as many as 38 points in the contest and never seriously challenged the Nets.
Wiseman produced 19 points, six rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes of work while he shot 7-of-13 from the field. His first bucket came just 50 seconds into the game as he worked mostly in the paint but did hit one 3-pointer, which was set up out of a pick and roll.

Overall, Wiseman proved to be a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing performance by the Warriors. Head coach Steve Kerr thought Wiseman flashed his overall skillset and showed why the Warriors were high on him in the draft.
The game by Wiseman was his first with the Warriors after sitting in each of the team’s three preseason games. He missed the start of training camp after testing positive for the coronavirus but looked to be effective and showed little signs of rust on Tuesday.
