James Wiseman leads Warriors with 20 points in preseason win vs. Wizards in Japan

In the Warriors’ 96-87 victory over the Wizards in the preseason opener in Japan, James Wiseman led the way with 20 points and eight boards.

In the Golden State Warriors preseason opener against the Washington Wizards in Japan on Friday morning, James Wiseman checked several boxes in an impressive performance. 

After playing only 39 games in his rookie campaign and missing all of his second season due to a knee injury, the 2020 No. 2 overall pick returned to the court on Friday for the Warriors’ preseason contest against the Wizards.

In 24 minutes off the bench, Wiseman led the team with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field in Golden State’s 96-87 preseason victory over Washington at Saitama Super Arena. Wiseman added eight boards, an assist and a block against the Wizards.

Golden State newcomer Donte DiVincenzo added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, seven rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes off the bench.

In a 13-minute appearance in the first half, Steph Curry tallied six points on 1-of-7 shooting from the floor with one triple, three rebounds and two assists to start the preseason. 

Both rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins made their preseason debuts against the Wizards. Rollings tallied eight points on 1-of-5 shooting with two rebounds and an assist in 11 minutes. Baldwin Jr. added seven points on 2-of-3 shooting from the floor with a rebound in eight minutes. 

Following their victory in the preseason opener on Friday, the Warriors will be back on the court in Japan on Saturday for a rematch against the Wizards at 10 p.m. PT.
