Colts at Browns game notes

  • The Colts bumped off the previously unbeaten Chicago Bears last weekend at Soldier Field, winning 19-11. The final score was not quite as indicative of Indy’s domination, as it had allowed just three points until Chicago WR Allen Robinson hauled in a 16-yard touchdown with just 1:35 to go in regulation.
  • The Colts rank No. 1 in total yards (236.3), passing yards (159.3) and total points allowed (14.0) per game, and they’re fourth in the NFL in rushing yards per game (77.0) while posting a total of seven takeaway with a plus-4 turnover ratio.
  • Offensively, Indy ranks in the lower third of the league with 360.3 total yards per game, while posting a rather middling 25.8 PPG to check in 17th.
  • The Browns racked up a season-high 49 points in a win at the Dallas Cowboys last week, and they have scored 30 or more points in three straight games for the first time since 1968. Cleveland’s offense ranks fourth in the NFL with 31.0 PPG, and it’s first with a whopping 204.5 rushing yards per game.
  • Cleveland’s defense numbers are a bit poor, as it has yielded 310.5 passing yards per game, ranking 30th, and it’s 27th in the NFL with 31.5 points per game allowed. However, it is fifth against the run, yielding just 91.8 yards per game on the ground.

Colts at Browns: Odds, betting lines, picks and prediction

Prediction

Colts 23, Browns 20

Money line (?)

Betting the COLTS (-112) money line isn’t much different than betting on the spread, but a one-point win by Indy is a push laying the point. In this instance, I’d rather minimize any risk and just play the money line, as the difference in juice is rather negligible.

Against the spread (?)

The COLTS -1 (-110) are the play if you aren’t comfortable playing the money line. This has fluctuated between -1 and -1.5 this week, and Joe Public is all over the home side as short dogs. Indy’s defense is nasty, and the Browns +1 (-110) will get a dose of reality against a team that can actually stop them.

I also don’t like how banged up Cleveland is at the skill positions. Missing Chubb for an extended period will really change the complexion of this offense.

Over/Under (?)

The UNDER 47.5 (-110) is worth a small-unit wager. Scoring is way, way up in the NFL this season, but not in games involving the blue horseshoe. And yes, Indy’s D will get its biggest test, as the Bears and New York Jets aren’t exactly lighting the world afire. The Colts did limit the Minnesota Vikings to just 11 points in Week 2. This should come in slightly Under as the Browns take a giant step back after their huge showing in Week 4.
