In an uncertain world, Redskins LB Thomas Davis escapes to his own personal iron church

Many NFL players are being forced to find new ways to work out with team facilities shut down, leaving Thomas Davis thankful for his home gym

For anyone that is alive today, the current ‘everyday-life’ is as crazy and hectic as it has ever been. Schools and stores are closed — save grocery stores and a select few others — and there’s little opportunity to blow off steam. For any parent who has children at home, invading the space where you’re supposed to continue working during this quarantine, insanity might be knocking at the door.

Luckily, for Washington Redskins veteran linebacker Thomas Davis, his house is well-suited for this type of situation. He can get his work done while escaping to a place of silence — his own iron church.

“Luckily enough for me, when I decided to build the house that I am currently living in, that I am probably going to live in for the rest of my life, I put a gym in it,” Davis said, via The Athletic. “That’s been one of the most beneficial things that I actually did in building this house because I’m doing this interview right now from my gym because that’s the quietest place in my house right now, the kids are away.”

We aren’t all fortunate enough to have a personal gym set up in our house, but those select few of us who have the means to work out at home — be it some free weights, a stationary bike, or a set of resistant bands — know how truly beneficial it is.

When life is crazy, many people turn towards exercise to stay sane and keep a level head. While the NFL is in flux, and players are being forced to find new ways to stay in shape, Davis is looking back on his decision to build a gym with some gratitude.

“You’ve got to stay on top of making sure that you’re in shape as players,” Davis said. “You’ve got to make sure that we’re doing the things that are necessary to make sure that once the season is able to kick back and we’re able to go, that it’s not a bunch of guys trying to get back in shape at that point.”
