Ian Begley: Nets’ Ben Simmons not expected to require back surgery

Ian Begley says that Ben Simmons should not need surgery for his nerve impingement.

Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons is not expected to require back surgery for the nerve impingement in his back, SNY’s Ian Begley said on Wednesday. Begley reported this information after speaking with Simmons’ agent, Bernie Lee, following the Nets being ruling out Simmons for the rest of this season on Tuesday.

According to Begley, there seems to be a better understanding of Simmons’ injury and that the team expects Simmons to be ready to go by the time training camp comes around. Simmons has missed 33 games this season because of a variety of injuries mostly related to his knee and back.

When Simmons has played, his performance was below expectations compared to his career averages and career accomplishments. There were times this season where Simmons looked to be the All-Star that he was during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers. For now, Simmons will have to focus on his rehab and hope to move past his recurring injuries during training camp.
