‘I feel more in rhythm’: Cade Cunningham sets new career-high in loss

Cunningham became the first Pistons rookie since 2010-11 with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a game.

No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham set a new career-high on Monday but the effort was not enough as the Detroit Pistons fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder for their ninth straight loss.

Cunningham finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals in 36 minutes of work in the 114-103 loss. He went 11-of-24 from the field and 6-of-11 from 3-point range for his fourth straight game with at least three triples.

With the performance, Cunningham became the first Pistons rookie since Greg Monroe in 2010-11 to tally at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a game. He is the only first-year player in team history to reach those numbers with five 3-pointers.

Cunningham, as he said, is shooting the ball very confidently right now.

I feel a lot more in rhythm. I feel like I’ve been taking a pretty good shot, a lot better shots than what I was. Not that those shots I was taking early on weren’t good but I have a different feeling stepping into those shots now so it’s just about continuing to stack on good days of preparation and when game time comes, just let go of everything else and just play basketball, something I’ve been doing for a long time.

Cunningham, who was nominated for Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month, is beginning to heat up from beyond the arc. He is averaging 22 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 53.1% shooting from 3-point range over his last four games.

The Pistons and Cunningham knew it’d only be a matter of time before shots started to fall this season. He appears to be rounding into form with the Pistons and has seemingly put a slow start behind him with 18 games now under his belt.
