How Oklahoma coaches reacted to the commitment of No. 1 2021 QB Caleb Williams

Oklahoma got its man at quarterback on July 4. Here is how the Sooners coaching staff reacted to the big news on Saturday night.

The Oklahoma coaching staff spent much of July 4 weekend hyping up something that was coming.

All the eyes had been on five-star and No. 1 overall 2021 quarterback Caleb Williams since the calendar turned to 2020 in Jan. He was making a commitment on Saturday night, and the thought became a reality.

The Sooners landed their second No. 1 overall quarterback in three years with Spencer Rattler signing out of the 2019 class, becoming the first program in the Rivals’ rankings era to land two No. 1 quarterbacks in a three-year span.

The two quarterbacks will be on campus together in the 2021 season and have identical credentials. Five-stars, No. 1 rated quarterbacks and Elite 11 Finals MVPs. Williams’ commitment extended the stability of the quarterback position at Oklahoma for at least through the 2023 season.
