Iowa Hawkeyes linebacker and leader of the defense Jack Campbell is no stranger to being a dominant defensive force in the Big Ten and nationally. His production last season saw him lead the Hawkeyes with 143 tackles and prove he has sideline-to-sideline ability to run with running backs, tight ends, and even wide receivers.
In what is expected to be a bit of a coronation of Jack Campbell this season before the inevitable jump to the NFL, the Big Ten media has named him the preseason Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. This speaks volumes to what can be expected of Jack Campbell and the growing belief around his special skillset.

Jack Campbell was the leader of an Iowa Hawkeyes defense last season that was nationally recognized across the country for how stingy they were in giving up points and how often they turned the ball over. The 2022 college football season could see an even better Iowa Hawkeyes defense as their linebacking core of Campbell, Seth Benson, and Jestin Jacobs anchors an always stout group.
Joining Campbell with this honor on the offensive side is no shock. The media has selected future first-round NFL draft pick and early Heisman trophy candidate, C.J. Stroud, the quarterback of the Ohio State Buckeyes as the preseason Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.
As we enter the Big Ten Media Days this week, July 26 and July 27, Campbell is one of the Iowa Hawkeyes that will be in attendance and providing insight as teams get ramped up for the upcoming season.
