New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is currently recovering from a torn ACL but is expected to return by Week 1 of the regular season.
Assuming Barkley can remain healthy, he’s still one of the best, most elusive running backs in the league. He’s capable of changing the game each time he touches the football and adds an incredibly unique dynamic to Jason Garrett’s offense.
For those very reasons, Pro Football Focus has him ranked as the No. 7 running back in football despite two consecutive injury-plagued seasons.
7. SAQUON BARKLEY, NEW YORK GIANTS
One of the most talented backs in the league, Saquon Barkley embodies the cautionary tale of the position, with both injury and environment combining to limit his effectiveness so far at the pro level. Barkley showed what he was capable of as a rookie, but that is his only season that generated a PFF grade above 80.0.
Any issues Barkley had with the environment should also be corrected this season. The Giants have added a ton of firepower and believe in their offensive line, which was more effective while run blocking than pass protecting a season ago.
