Giants request defensive coordinator interview with Bills’ Bobby Babich

The New York Giants have requested a defensive coordinator interview with Buffalo Bills linebackers coach Bobby Babich.

When things don’t work out with coordinators you aren’t personally familiar with, travel back to the well and call on a familiar face. That’s the approach New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is taking.

Following his fallout with Wink Martindale, Daboll is now in search of a new defensive coordinator and he’ll be looking to the Buffalo Bills to potentially fill that void.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the Giants have requested an interview with Bills linebackers coach Bobby Babich.

The 40-year-old Babich has spent the past two seasons coaching linebackers in Buffalo. Prior to that, he coached the team’s safeties for four seasons and served as the assistant defensive backs coach for one.

In addition to six years coaching at the college level, Babich has also had NFL stints with the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns, filling various roles from administrative assistant t to defensive assistant.

Babich obviously has ties to Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen from their years in Buffalo, so he knows what he’d be in for in East Rutherford.

Along with Babich, the Giants have also expressed interest in or interviewed Jerome Henderson, Anthony Campanile, Dennard Wilson, Shane Bowen, and Derrick Ansley for the defensive coordinator position.
