Giants’ DeAndre Baker is in East Rutherford, still plans on reporting to camp

New York Giants CB DeAndre Baker is in East Rutherford and still plans on reporting to training camp despite his legal troubles.

Embatled New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker is reportedly in town and plans on attending the team’s training camp which begins this week.

Baker is still dealing with four counts of assault and armed robbery stemming from an incident earlier this year in Florida.

“The case in Florida is still just pending and we are hopeful of a dismissal soon,” Patrick Patel, one of Baker’s attorneys, told The Post last Friday. “But right now DeAndre’s only concern is the team. And he will not be a distraction and will not be discussing the case. It is all about Giants and teammates now. He cannot wait to get on the field and out of the news.”

The Giants have not told Baker to stay away from training camp, so that is why he is here. Since the charges are being disputed (there is evidence that could clear Baker and another player, Seattle’s Quinton Dunbar), neither the Giants nor the NFL have levied any type of punishment on either player.

There is a distinct possibility that Baker could still end up on the commissioner’s exempt list even if he is cleared of all charges.
