One former University of Tennessee basketball player played in the NBA Playoffs Tuesday night. He and his team saw their 2020-21 season come to an end with an exit from the postseason.
Boston, the No.7 seed in the Eastern Conference, fell to second-seeded Brooklyn, 123-109, at Barclays Center.
The loss ended Boston’s season, a campaign in which the Celtics had to reach the playoffs via the State Farm Play-in Tournament after going 36-36 in the regular season.
In Tuesday night’s contest, former Volunteer Grant Williams played 12 minutes. He had three points, three rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist against the Nets, who had a 59-51 lead by halftime.
Williams, a 2019 first-round draft pick by the Celtics, was 1-for-3 from the field and missed his lone attempt from beyond the 3-point arc. He went 1-for-2 from the free throw line.
The former Vol played three seasons at Tennessee and left Knoxville after his junior season in 2019 as the two-time Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.
Williams was later selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft and was taken with the No. 22 over all pick.
