The Minnesota Vikings lost one of their former owners on Monday as Red McCombs passed away at 95 years old per multiple reports.
Having made his fortune owning car dealerships, McCombs ended up buying the Vikings before the 1998 season and the Vikings went onto having two of their best seasons in franchise history in making the NFC Championship Game in both 1998 and 2000.
His tenure wasn’t always smooth, as the team wasn’t given the proper resources that they needed to be competitive or successful. While that was always something that he was known for, McCombs also fought hard for a stadium. So hard in fact that he had discussed moving the team.
The groundwork that he laid helped the Wilfs get the new stadium the Vikings needed and that project grew exponentially in 2005 when he sold the team.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
